His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej passes away

13 October 2016

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father of the nation. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away today at 3.52 p.m. aged 88, ending seven decades on the throne.

Throughout his reign, His Majesty worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Thai people, and will be forever revered, remembered and loved for his wisdom, his passion for photography and music, and his devotion to his people.

As King Rama 9, King Bhumibol Adulyadej was Thailand’s ninth monarch from the Chakri Dynasty. Having come to power on 9 June 1946 aged just 18, he was, at the time of his death, the world's longest-serving Head of State and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history, serving for 70 years, 126 days.

The Bureau of the Royal Household announced that His Majesty passed away peacefully at 3.52 pm on Thursday 13 October at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok.

In a televised address to the nation minutes after the announcement, the Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-ocha declared that mourning will last for one year, and flags will fly at half-mast for 30 days.

United in grief in the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, devoted Father of our Nation. With our deepest love from Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization)
