As of 12 July 2021, Thailand’s vaccination has achieved over 14% of its population, while Thai cabinet has recently approved financial relief of USD 1.4 billion to workers, individuals and entrepreneurs in affected provinces with maximum and strict COVID-19 controls. Simultaneously, the “Phuket Sandbox” project has already welcomed over 5,000 international travellers during this 1-13 July with to-date hotel room booking of 187,265 nights in this July-September, according to the Tourism and Sports Minister. From the survey, these travellers are expected to spend approximately USD 2,800 per person, or around USD 12.5-16 million in total. This clearly reflects the positive trends for the “Thailand Reopens” campaign.

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB has set forth to reshape a new facet of Thai exhibitions while the country has been reopening. Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, TCEB President, stated that COVID-19 has called for major changes in structure, technology and professional skills for MICE industry. Across the globe, innovative plans are underway to bring back exhibitions and hybrid events pencil in an important role to create new opportunities that cater to both in-person and virtual experiences.

“TCEB has been providing innovative solutions and vigorous support to Thai MICE industry since its establishment in 2002. We are now looking into the future how to reshape our MICE industry while preparing MICE operators for the ongoing changes with a strategic end-to-end digital transformation.” revealed Mr. Chiruit.

TCEB therefore has formulated “MICE Winnovation” to embrace digital innovation and technology solutions in all aspects of event management for the purpose of business continuity, and long-term competitiveness of Thailand’s MICE industry while creating trade opportunities for start-ups and tech firms. “2HY” New Norm Initiative for Trade Shows to Stay Competitive
A series of our support activities is in the pipeline to engage the industry on this collaborative recovery journey. TCEB has currently rolled out “2HY” (Hygiene and Hybrid) to reconfirm standard, readiness and leverage trade show quality. This campaign aims to share guidance and practices to venues for their safe business operation. In light of hygiene, to ensure lower risks of infection spread, venues have been advised to execute these efforts as their prevention measures to support our safe presence at their facilities.
