TCEB hosts a meeting on VISA and Work Permit requirement for MICE travelers


Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau hosted (TCEB) a meeting in order to create an understanding among relevant government agencies about the terms and conditions of VISA and Work Permit for MICE travelers coming to Thailand.

The relevant government agencies attending the meeting were Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labor, Department of Employment Immigration Bureau and Office of the Public Sector Development Commission.

Objectives

Type of Visa

1. Foreigners entering Thailand for the purposes of being “employees or contractors of organizers of conferences and seminars” to make the conferences or seminars happen are regarded as working under Foreigner Working Act of B.E. 2551 (2008). They must apply for a work permit with Ministry of Labor, except for entering to work on needed and urgent matters for a period of no longer than 15 days. In that case, they shall submit a Tor Tor 10 form.

2. Foreigners entering Thailand for the following purposes of trading and investment will not be regarded as working. Therefore, they will note need a work permit or a Tor Tor 10 form:

 2.1 Participating in meetings, conferences or seminars

2.2 Attending exhibitions or trade shows 2.3 Visiting businesses or having business meetings

2.4 Attending special or academic lectures 2.5 Attending lectures at technical trainings or seminars

2.6 Purchasing goods at trade shows


Tourist visa

Foreigners entering Thailand for MICE without the purposes of being employed or working for income, but being event attendants will be regarded as tourists under the definition of Tourism Authority of Thailand Act of B.E. 2522 (1979).
