TCEB, THAI SUPPLIERS IN FIRST ONLINE BUSINESS NEGOTIATION WITH GLOBAL BUYERS

TCEB, THAI SUPPLIERS IN FIRST ONLINE BUSINESS NEGOTIATION

WITH GLOBAL BUYERS

To maintain and strengthen Thailand’s leading position in MICE industry in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is leading 20 Thai suppliers and association to engage in the first online business negotiations with overseas prospective clients attending the first virtual edition of ITCM China 2020, during 3-5 August.

Towards this end, TCEB has supported the set-up of the physical space to serve as online platform at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park for Thai suppliers to connect with 300 Chinese and overseas buyers after pre-scheduled appointments (PSA) have been made. Technical support team to assist in the smooth running of their online negotiations has also been provided by TCEB. TCEB’s branded video presentation will be featured on 4 August to showcase to the audience a new incentive scheme for meeting and incentive organisers, which is co-created by the bureau and over 60 Thai suppliers.

This year the virtual ITCM China will be attended by around 119 exhibitors, more than 300 buyers and 30 media. The 20 participating Thai suppliers are from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket and Khao Lak.

Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, stated that the Thai government’s relaxation of lockdown measures has presented the opportunities for MICE which is in need of urgent recovery. While the priority is on domestic market, overseas markets must be maintained and expanded as it is of paramount importance for the recovery in the long run. In this connection, the bureau decided to invest and support online overseas business for Thai suppliers to fetch the possible market share in anticipation of the lifting of international travel ban. The participation in the first virtual edition of ITCM China 2020 is our step toward that goal.

“Another reason is that China has been Thailand’s top source market of MICE travelers for the past 7 years. ITCM China, which is held every year in Shanghai, is, therefore, a key market platform for us to reach out to Chinese buyers. During crisis, communication and maintaining the relationship with clients and new update on products and services are key ingredients for long-term planning for the organisers. The bureau expects that our participation in the virtual trade show of ITCM China 2020 will affirm Thailand’s overseas presence, create confidence in Thailand and build business momentum that will become fruitful in the future”.

The support in turning a physical venue into an online platform for a group of 20 Thai suppliers to engage in business with overseas buyers is TCEB’s response to the government’s policy in using meetings or business events to drive the economy and create income distribution. Health and hygienic protocols as stipulated by the government’s directives are strictly adhered to during the event to ensure that organising business events pose no health risk.

The arrangement of online business platform also reflects TCEB’s policy in using technology to drive business, which has been accelerated by the pandemic impacts. TCEB hopes that the bureau’s support will sharpen the know-how and skills of Thai suppliers even more in their operation, management and maximisation of online technology for business objectives. That will help raise the competitive edge of Thai MICE industry in dealing with any disruptions that may undermine physical events in the future, stated Mr. Chiruit.
